Did you ever wonder how many choices the average person makes in a day? That question came to my mind as I pondered upon the verse, “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Jeremiah 6:16 NIV)

One of the blessings of modern life is that when we have this kind of question, we can open up our internet search engine and just simply “google it”. On the first page of sites with answers to the question, “How many choices does the average person make in a day?”, various sources cite research that estimates that an adult makes about 35,000 remotely conscious decisions each day. Whatever the veracity of the research, you do come away reminded that each day finds us making A LOT of choices! Most are mundane, but some can be life-altering.
One of the heavy responsibilities that we carry in our work at the Agathe Center for Entrepreneurship is that of helping our clients make good choices – not just specific choices – but also understanding the basis and process of making good choices. As we stand with our clients at the crossroads, we find a lot of wisdom in the “ancient paths”. We want to help with finding the good way and we want to encourage our clients to walk in it.
With the pressures of COVID protocols, travel restrictions, supply chains issues, a tight labor market, and more, we find it more important than ever to remind ourselves that almost always, good choices build upon prior good choices and the finding of the “good way”. Standing at the crossroads today, look, ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is – and choose to go there. You will like where it takes you.
